“Companies 4 Global Goals”, an AIESEC Italia event to engage with corporations on Sustainable Development Goals

We are pleased to share an initiative of AIESEC Italia not only for the close cooperation we have with student associations, but also because the event will focus and engage corporations on the SDGs!

What then is Company 4 Global Goals?

This a sub initiative by AIESEC Italy to engage the corporate sector in an opportunity to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal. This is an event being organized on the 12th – 13th of December 2016 in Trevi (Province of Perugia), Italy. The event would bring together young individuals already contributing locally to the achievement of some of the 17 Global Goals with business and institutions that are interested and active in the world of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Here is more information on SDGs

The planet we currently live in is the only one able to support human life. It is only fitting that we as inhabitants must strive to sustain it together with all the inhabitants in it.

Recent efforts have been made to achieve that by involving as many countries, institutions, organizations and individuals to move together with one cause, notably among them are the Millennium Development Goals (8 Goals to be achieved in 15 years; 2000 – 2015 http://www.unmillenniumproject.org/goals/) and currently the Sustainable Development Goals (17 goals to be achieved in 15 years)

What are the Sustainable Development Goals?

The year was 2015, the deadline for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and a lot of change had come to the planet during the 15 years period. The MDGs, called by the United Nations as ‘the most successful anti-poverty movement in history’.

Summary of the Report on the MDGs

Heads of State and Government and High Representatives met at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 25 – 27 September 2015 as the organization celebrated its 70th anniversary. During this period the 193 countries of the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 Development Agenda titled Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It involves a set of 17 aspirational “Global Goals” with 169 targets between them.

As the world’s largest youth led organization [AIESEC] we decided that in order to be really relevant and make the necessary impact through our activities we must be able to, among other things, shape what we do around what the world needs. This led to the birth of the concept of Youth for Global Goals – Y4GG (http://youth4globalgoals.org/)

In December 2015, representatives from our 126 countries and territories gathered at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to attend the ‘AIESEC Youth Action Summit.’ This summit’s goal was to decide on how we as an organization can actively contribute to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

Our declaration to achieving the Global Goals can be summarized under three main pillars

  1. Create Awareness of the Global Goals
  2. Foster Engagement around the Global Goals
  3. Take Action on the Global Goals
